Chapter 3 Diffusion In Cells Flashcards

Q
State what diffusion is in cells
A
In the outside cell there is high concentration, the smaller particles can pass through the cell membrane via diffusion. The particles randomly move, diffusion is passive and requires no extra energy and eventually the high concentration goes to low concentration resulting eventually in equilibrium

Q
State what diffusion is but not necessarily diffusion in a cell
A
Diffusion. Occurs when molecules collide causing them to spread out. This gives the effect that the substance is moving from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Once the particles are evenly spread out the diffusion appears to stop.
