Chapter 3-9 Test 2 Flashcards
Hyperplasia
Increase in the number of cells.
Hypertrophy
The cells become bigger.
Key components of developmental progression/sequencing of ballistic skills.
Trunk, arm action, and feet.
What are teratogens?
It causes abnormal growth, along with genetics.
Universal pattern of postnatal growth and physiological maturation?
First a short period of rapid growth, then it slows down and levels off, and then slowly shrinks.
Motor Milestones
Steps we must reach to reach other steps.
Reflexes (in general)
Occurs when something stimulates
Central Nervous System
Allows us to think and process information.
Muscular system across the lifespan
Early on we have an increase, through childhood will become more consistent, then the muscles get bigger by 50 you start losing 10% of your muscle mass.
Reaching
Relationship with postural control-> the better the postural control=better reaching
Purpose of locomotion
To explore and move place to place. Important because exploring your environment you can increase motor control, cognitive and social development.
Long Jump
Too 2 predictors of our muscular skeletal system, because it allows us to know if there is messages firing from the central nervous system launching and landing on two feet.
Role of vision prior to and during reaching and grasping
Location of the object, size, how far away and where we are in space.
Key components of novice and proficient walkers/runners
Novice walkers::Hands at low medium. Short steps. Wide base. No trunk rotation.
proficient walkers:: use arms in opposition. 50%phasing a point in the movement pattern where both feet are on the ground. Trunk roatation narrower base.
Novice runner:: shorter steps, little trunk rotation, arms help balance, pull legs up.
Proficient runner:: stride length increase. Trunk rotates. Arms swing in opposition. Produces force with legs.
