Fundamental freedoms states
This section protects our freedoms like freedom of speech, opinion, religion, to gather peacefully protest, and the list goes on. By supporting the fundamental freedoms, it will guarantee a healthy democracy. The fundamental freedoms help people not to abandon their own culture. If we didn’t have these fundamental freedoms, everyone would be mean to each other and they wouldn’t be able to go to court and press charges. You wouldn’t be able to express yourself.
Democratic rights states
Every Canadian citizen as the right to vote for any party or member of parliament of their choosing. And no government office can stay in power for more than 5 years. We wouldn’t be able to vote for the government, therefore, the same government in power, or we wouldn’t have a government. We would have a government that only cares about themself.
Mobility rights states
The mobility rights states that every Canadian citizen has the right to go and leave Canada. And all citizens can live, leave, work, or have a business anywhere in Canada. But people still need to reach provincial requirements for the job they’re working on/in. And some provinces require you to follow the residence rules. We would be trapped in our own province and people couldn’t leave Canada or enter.
Legal rights states
Everyone has the right to live, liberty, and security of a person. The government cannot remove this right. These rights are not just for criminals they’re for everyone. Without these rights, the police would have more power overuse.
Equality rights states
In the court, you have to be treated equally, to someone else in the same position as you. This right gives people equal treatment and benefits. Everyone would be treated differently.
Language rights states
People have the right to speak french and English. Anyone in government would have to know both English and french. And people can choose what language they want to speak. Everyone would have to be forced to learn/speak either French or English.
Minority language education rights states
Citizens can be educated in both French and English. In Quebec, there are more french speaking Canadians than English, but they can still be educated in English. In every other province or territory, a child can learn in french if their parent’s first language is french, the parents learned in french school, or if the parents already had a child that learned in french. Every child would have to learn in one language. It wouldn’t be fair.
what is the role of the charter
The role of the Charter is to protect and guarantee the fundamental rights of Canadians.
