Chapter 3 Flashcards
Sensation:
Immediate response of our sensory receptors
Perception:
The process of acquiring, selecting, organizing, and interpreting sensory information
The process of perception
Exposure
Attention
Interpretation
Absolute threshold and ex
The minimum for us to response to any given sensory channel
Vision see something a mile away
Touch feel a bee wing fall on face
Just noticeable difference
The minimum difference we can detect in two stimuli
Webers law
Our second stimuli must be stronger then the first unordered for people to notice
Subliminal perception
The perception of stimuli below our level of consciousness
Ex fedex arrow in word
Interpretation bias and ex
Consumers project their own desires or assumptions onto ads or products
Ex coffee taste test McDonald’s vs Starbucks
Brand image vs quality perception
Behavioral learning : responding to certain stimuli
Two types
- Classical conditioning- pairing an artificial stimulus with a natural one
- Instrumental conditioning- prefer a reward over punishment, learn how to make positive decision to create positive outcomes and stay away from negative ones,
Cognitive learning
A problem solving process where we seek out information to reach best decision.
Luxury goods
Ex Perfume cars
Memory process
Storing and retrieving knowledge
External inputs, encoding, storage, retrieval
Three memory systems
Sensory: temporary storage
Short term: brief storage of information for limited time
Long term: permanent
