Chapter 3 Flashcards
1
Q
Characteristic impedance
A
How much a material resists being moved
Zc = pc
Where p= density of the medium
And c= speed of sound
Then I= p2/Zc
2
Q
Reflection
A
Sound waves in air will be reflected by materials with a higher impedance than air
Much of the sound energy is reflected back
3
Q
Transmitted
A
Acoustic energy is pass through the object and it’s neighbors
4
Q
Absorbed
A
Acoustic energy converted to heat
5
Q
Diffraction
A
Low frequency sounds diffract more than high frequency
If object is about the same length as your wavelength, it will go right around it
-if object is bigger, you won’t get the same amount of bending
