Chapter 3 Flashcards
Indications for PROM
Acute stage of healing.
pt. is unable to (paralyzed, comatose)
Goals of PROM
Maintain joint and connective tissue mobility
Minimize contraction/adhesions
Maintain mechanical elasticity of mm
Assist circulation & vascular dynamics
Enhance synovial movement for cartilage nutrition
Decrease or inhibit pain
Assist w/ healing process after injury or surgery
Maintain pt awareness of movement
Billing and documentation for PROM
Not a manual technique
Considered There Ex by Medicare
Indications for AAROM
Subacute stage of healing
pt. is able to contract mm but not move through full range of motion.
can be used for aerobic conditioning
Indications for AROM
pt is able to contract a segment with or without assistance
Progress from PROM AAROM AROM
Goals for AROM
Provide sensory feedback Provide sensory feedback Stress to osseus attachments/bone and tissue integrity. Increase circulation Develop coordination & motor skills
Limitations of AROM
For strong mm active ROM does not maintain or increase strength. It does not develop skill or coordination exempt in the movement patters used.
Precautions and Contraindications to ROM Ex’s?
ROM should not e done when motion is disruptive to the healing process.
ROM should not be done if pt response or condition is life threatening. (COPD)
Applying ROM techniques
pt preparation: consent, sensation
application of techniques
application of PROM & AROM
S-AROM
Self Assisted ROM Wand (T-bar) Wall climbing overhead pulley skate board/ powder board reciprocal ex's ( nustep& eliptical)
