Kinds of clauses

A

Clause - group of words that contains a subject and a verb

Independent (main) - expresses a complete thought and can stand by it self as a sentence. Every sentence has at least on Independent clause.

Subordinate (dependent) - does not express a complete thought. Cannot stand alone as a sentence. By itself it is a sentence fragment
