Impoverished means to make someone poor.
The army came into the town and burnt down all the houses so the people became impoverished.

Shunned means to be kicked out or shut out.
In the medieval times you could be shunned by the church if you did something bad.
mercenary
Mercenary are professional soldiers that are hired to fight for another country.
In the game GTA 5 I can call mercenaries after another player.
infidels
Infidels are people who do not believe in a religion that other people believe that’s true.
In the medieval times infidels were people who did not believe in a Christian God.
meander
Meander means to follow a winding course.
In the book the Wizard Of Oz Dorothy follows the meandering yellow brick road.
pinnacle
Pinnacle means a high, pointed piece of rock.
In the medieval times you would often shatter your wooden wheel on pinnacles.
bailiff
A bailiff is a person who performs certain actions under legal authority, in particular.
Since the man committed a bad crime of steeling gold and other precious metals the bailiff is allowed to kill him.
