Chapter 3 Flashcards
How many lead wires are used to obtain a 12- lead ECG tracing?
The 10 lead wires produce 12 different lead circuits consisting of one or more wires from the electrodes to the electrocardiograph.
What will you need to know to prepare yourself for recording your first ECG?
Always check and double check the lead wires before you begin the tracing.
Name three augmented leads.
AVR aVL aVF
A multichannel ECG monitors all 12 leads but usually records how many leads at one time?
Records three leads at once and switches automatically, recording each of the four sets of three leads.
What are the three basic functions of an ECG?
Input, signal processing and output display
What are some reasons that you may change the speed of the ECG tracing?
In some cases you may want to change the speed to 50mm/sec which is twice as fast. You would do this if the patient had an unusually rapid heart rate so that the complexes are farther apart.
Name the controls of the ECG machine.
Speed, gain, and artifact filter.
Which type of electrode is used when monitoring a patient who will be having serial ECGs done?
For hospitalized patients, longer lasting silver electrodes are available. These electrodes are used for patients who require multiple and frequent ECGs ( series ECGs).
When the paper speed is 25 mm/sec there are how many small boxes per minute?
1500
