Complaint 50
plaintiff states the legal claims against the defendent
Service of Process 50
Complaint filed by plaintiff with court, and a copy is delivered to the defendant with a Summons
Answer 51
defendant provides an answer that states whether the allegations of the Complaint are true and any defenses she may have to the allegations in the Complaint.
Interrogatories 55
List of written questions sent by one party to another.
Deposition 58
Testimony of any person by depositoin upon oral examination.
Request for Production of Documents 59
request for another party to produce documents to be inspected/ copied, or permit entry/ inspection to/of land/ property
Prejudice 63
means the decision is final and the claim cannot be renewed
Challenges for Cause 66
A challenge that a prospective juror does not have the necessary qualificaitons (not independent family member, physically incapable of participating, not a citizen, etc.)
Peremptory Challenges 66
A challenge to remove perspective juror’s for non-legal reasons (such as excusing a business person who may be likely to see things in a way that is unfavorable to your case)
Notwithstanding the Verdict 71
n.o.v., non obstante verdicto, means the judge can enter a judgment if the verdict of the jury is outside the bounds of reason.
