Chapter 3 Flashcards
All body systems are linked by which system?
Cardiovascular system
2 most common body samples used for clinical lab analysis
Blood and urine
Cardiovascular system meaning
Cardiac muscle (heart) Vascular system (veins, arteries, and capillaries) Circulating blood
Aorta
Largest artery of the body ;supplies oxygenated blood to the circulatory system
Atria
2 upper chambers of the heart, contract to push blood through the heart, separated into right and left
Ventricles

Iatrogenic anemia
Anemia caused by medical treatment, e.g. taking large volumes of blood during venipuncture.
Plasma
Liquid portion of blood
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells, 4-6 million/uL (microliter), transport oxygen and carbon dioxide
Leukocytes
White blood cells, 5000-9000/uL, defense
Thrombocytes
Platelets, 250k-450k/uL, clotting
Hemostasis
The blood coagulation system
Homeostasis
A steady state in the human body
