CHAPTER 3 Flashcards

1
Q

Q

WATER MOVEMENT BETWEEN PLASMA AND INTERSTITIAL FLUID

A
  • water/Na+/glucose move freely across membrane

* albumin responsible for plasma oncotic pressure (due to high concentration)

Q

BODY PRESSURES

A
  • capillary hydrostatic pressure(BP): facilitates outward movement of water from capillary to interstitial space
  • capillary plasma oncotic pressure: osmotically attracts water from interstitial space back into capillary
  • interstitial hydrostatic pressure: inward movement of water from interstitial space into capillary
  • interstitial oncotic pressure: attracts water from capillary into interstitial space

Q

MOVEMENT OF FLUID

A
  • plasma flows from arterial to venous > force of hydrostatic pressure facilitates movement of water across capillary membrane into interstitial space
  • oncotic pressure remains same, proteins dont cross capillary membrane
