What does Response to Intervention (RTI) mean?
It is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs.
What are three important things to know about each student when implementing differential instruction?
Their strengths, challenges, and interests.
What is differential instruction?
It is teaching in a way that is equitable so that students are able to learn more equally.
Carol Tomlinson says that you should differentiate in these three areas
Content, process, and product
What is a paraprofessional aid?
An individual who is non-certified within the area that they are assisting but assists a certified professional in a team approach to the performance of the certified professional’s assigned program responsibilities.
What is a Personal Care Assistant (PCA)?
They provide one-to-one support to individual students, which includes using medical equipment and augmentative and assistive technology, supporting activities of daily living, and monitoring health and behavior.
What does a classroom team work to do?
They work together to identify students’ strengths and needs, establish instructional priorities, and carry out specific instructional tasks within the classroom, school, or community setting.
What are the two kinds of adjustments?
Accommodations and modifications. Accommodations are generally changes in input and output precesses in teaching and learning. Modifications are changes in content or standards.
Define supportive teaching
One teacher is the primary instructor and another teacher moves around the classroom and provides support to students.
Define parallel teaching
Teachers work with separate groups of students within the same classroom.
Define complementary teaching
The teacher with expertise takes the lead, and the other teacher provides ancillary instructional functions, such as paraphrasing, modeling, or emphasizing key points.
Define team teaching
Teachers simultaneously deliver a lesson or activity.
