Features of general appearance
Appears staged age, LOC, skin color, nutritional status, posture/position, obvious deformities, mobility, facial expression, mood/affect, speech, hearing, personal hygiene
Components of measurement
Weight, height, waist circumference, compute BMI, vision
Seated assessment
Skin, vitals, head/face, eyes, ears, nose, mouth/throat, neck, posterior/anterior chest, heart, upper extremities.
Supine (laying down) assessment
Breasts, abdomen, heart, inguinal area, lower extremities
Sitting with dangling legs assessment
Musculoskeletal, neurologic, deep tendon reflexes
Standing up assessment
Lower extremities, musculoskeletal, genitalia
Components of abdominal assessment
Inspect contour, symmetry, skin, pulsations. Auscultate bowel sounds. Light palpation usually.
Components of cardiovascular assessment
Inspect precordium for pulsations or heaving. Auscultate apical rate and rhythm. Auscultate heart sounds with diaphragm from apex to base.
