Chapter 26: Properties of Light Flashcards
Describe an electromagnetic wave.
If the magnetic field is oscillating, the electric field that it generates will be oscillating too. The vibrating electric and magnetic fields regenerate each other to make up an electromagnetic wave.
What is the electromagnetic spectrum?
The classification of electromagnetic waves according to the frequency.
Describe the composition of the human eye.
From front to back; cornea, iris, lens, retina, fovea.
What are the type of light receptors in the human eye? Describe where they are located and what they are responsible for.
Rods: rod-shaped antennae that predominate the retina.
Cones: responsible for color vision and dense in the fovea area. There are three types of cones, each stimulated by light of intermediate and higher frequencies.
