Chapter 2.1: Computer Components P2 Flashcards
devices that outputs processed data into a form understood by human beings.
Output Devices
4 TYPES OF OUTPUT DEVICES
- Text Output
- Graphic Output
- Sound Output
- Video Output
is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a computer and transfer the information to a paper.
Printers
produces an output by using a mechanism that presses against an inked ribbon on paper.
Impact Printer
is a type of impact printer which prints character or images by striking print hammer against an inked ribbon.
Dot Matrix Printer
uses a photocopier like process to transfer ink to a piece of paper.
Non-Impact Printer
is a computer peripheral that produces hard copies of documents or photo by spraying droplet of ink onto paper.
Inkjet Printer
is a type of non-impact printer where document is sent to the printer, and a laser beam draws the document.
Laser Printer
an electronic output device used to display information being entered and processed in a computer.
Video Monitor / Display
are used for audio output.
Speakers
is the brain of the computer. Is the integrated chip containing electronic circuitry that controls the interpretation and execution of instructions.
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
also known as auxiliary storage, secondary memory, or external memory.
Secondary Storage Unit
EXAMPLE OF SECONDARY STORAGE UNIT
o Magnetic Tape
o Hard Disk Drive
o CD ROM
o Flash Drive
one of the oldest technologies for electronic data storage.
Magnetic Tape
is a non-volatile storage device that retain stored data even when no power is supplied.
Hard Disk Drive
runs compact disk where data is held optically.
CD ROM
is a small portable device that plugs into the USD port on your computer.
Flash Drive
is the part of the computer which is responsible for accepting and processing the data brought in by the input devices.
System Unit
the main printed circuit board (PCB) in a computer.
Motherboard
is the computer’s central communication backbone connectivity point.
Motherboard
is the general term used to described where the computers hold data and instructions before and after they are processed.
Memory
2 TYPES OF MEMORY
o Random Access Memory (RAM)
o Read Only Memory (ROM)
is used as short-term memory storage for a computer’s CPU
Random Access Memory (RAM)
housing of the system unit.
Chassis
are built in but can be bought externally for better quality for display.
Video Cards
used to send and receive audio on a computer-based device.
Sound Cards
a circuit board that connects the computer to the rest of the network usually using special cables.
Network Card
assist the CPU to cool down.
Fan and Heat Sink
is a hardware that convers AC to DC electricity and distributes it to the rest of the computer.
