most of us experience times when we are preoccupied with specific thoughts or ideas
many also find that routines or rituals are important in organizing our work and home life
when these preoccupations and rituals interfere with daily life, they become abnormal and may represent symptoms fo a mental disorder
what are the two terms that fall under OCD?

compulsions
what does obsession means?
excessive, intrusive or unwanted thoughts, impulses or images causing anxiety and distress
what does compulsions mean?
actions to relieve anxiety ; these are repetitive behaviors performed in a ritualistic manner
what are the 3 things we must worry when we are talking about compulsions ?
- people perform it to help relieve anxiety temporality
- dont interrupt cause it causes safety issues for patient and you
- interrupting compulsive behavior increases anxiety

severe disturbances in daily routines, relationships, or occupation function ; time consuming and clearly exceed cultural or religious norms

excessive focus on slight or imagined defects in appearance

this does not help correct, or help relieve the patients preoccupation
what is a hoarding disorder?
individuals with this disorder need to save things and become very upset if items are removed
why is hoarding disorder a safety issue?
because it can lead to clutter and biohazard
what is trichotillomania excoriation disorder?
compulsive behavior that damage the hair and skin
