Uniformed determination of death act
it served as a guide for state lawmakers to create their own laws, the act provided a definition of death (irreversible cessation)
Different types of living will
provides instructions about life-sustaining medical treatment to be administered or withheld when the patient has a terminal condition
Advanced directives
written instructions about healthcare decisions should a person be unable to make them
Healthcare proxy
(kind of like a surrogate) a competent adult can appoint a person to make healthcare decisions in the event they are unable to do so
Medical durable power of attorney
like a living will but includes all healthcare decisions. It lasts as long as the person is not able to make decisions. Document names a healthcare proxy and can include healthcare wishes. Can be used in a non-terminal situation
