Nursing Assistant (NA)
performs assigned tasks and provides or assists with personal care
Spend more time with residents than other members of the care team
Observing and reporting changes in the resident’s condition or abilities
Registered Nurse (RN)
coordinates, manages, and provides skilled nursing care
Administering special treatments and giving medication as prescribed by physician
Assigns tasks and supervises daily care of residents by nursing assistant
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
administers medications and gives treatments
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
can make diagnoses and prescribe treatment
Four types: nurse practitioner (NP), nurse anesthetist (CRNA), nurse midwife (CNM), clinical nurse specialist (CNS)
Physician or Doctor (MD or DO)
licensed professional who diagnoses disease or disability and prescribes treatment and medication
Physician Assistant (PA)
licensed professional who diagnoses disease of disability and develops a treatment plans, as well as prescribes medication
Works under the supervision of a doctor
physical therapist (PT or DPT)
evaluates a person and develops a treatment plan to increase movement, improve circulation, promote healing, reduce pain, prevent disability, and regain or maintain mobility
Occupation Therapist (OT)
helps residents learn to adapt to disabilities
May help train residents to person ADLs
May involve assistive devices
Ex: glasses, hearing aid, wheelchair
Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
identifies communication disorders, addresses factors involved in recovery, develops plan of care to meet improvement or recovery goals
Teaches exercises to help the resident improve or overcome speech problems
Evaluates person’s ability to swallow food and drink
Registered Dietician (RD or RDN)
assesses a resident’s nutritional status and develops a treatment plan to improve nutritional status and develops a treatment plan to improve health and manage illness
Creates diets to meet resident’s special needs and may also supervise the preparation of food and educate people about nutrition
Medical Social Worker (MSW)
determines residents’ needs and helps get them support services (counseling and financial assistance)
Activities Director
plans activities for residents to help them socialize and stay physically and mentally active
Meant to improve and maintain residents’ well-being and to prevent further complications from illness or disability
