Chapter 2 Test Flashcards
What are the difference between atoms and molecules
Atoms are what makeup molecules
What are the difference between solid, liquids, and gasses
The molecules energy different in how it’s put together
What do the 3states expand when the are heated
The expand because the take up more space when in heat
List the process of the picture
Melting
Evaporation
Freezing
Condensation
How are water molecules attracted to each other
It depends on the temperature if it’s hot they have less attraction but when cold they have a lot more attraction
Why do water molecules attract to each other
They attract because the hydrogen bonds connect to molecules and the attraction is based off of temperature
What happens to molecules when a liquid is evaporated
The molecules change there state to a gas and all that means is the energy changes
What happens when water vapor becomes condensation
The molecules go back to there original state wich is a liquid
What happens when molecules in a liquid freeze
The molecules attraction get stronger and the liquid changes state to a solid
What happens to molecules when ice melts
They go back to there original state wich is liquid
What happens when a solid becomes a gas
That only happens when the heat is to much for both a liquid and solid so it just goes to a gas
What is the difference between heating and cooling molecules
Heating expands the molecules and cooling shrinks the molecules
How do molecules in a solid move
The hav attraction based on temperature
What happens to gas molecules when you heat them up
The go crazy bounce all around the place
The Alsace zero attraction to each other
Why do molecules change states at all
If they don’t there wouldn’t be ordinary for example if there was only liquid we wouldn’t have real object because every thing has molecules but they all have different amounts of energy so if that energy never changes we would never have ordinary objects today
