Chapter 2 - Stereochemistry Flashcards
1
Q
Define an isomer
A
Two different molecules with the same number and type of atoms
2
Q
Define the difference between structural and functional isomers
A
Structural isomers: different structure, same formula
Functional isomers: different functional groups
3
Q
Difference between cis and trans
A
Cis = same, same atom on the top or bottom of the double bond Trans = different, different atoms on the top or bottom of the double bond
4
Q
Difference between E and Z configuration
A
E = epposites, high priority on opposite sides of double bond Z = zame zide, high priority on zame zide of double bond
5
Q
Difference between Achiral and Chiral
A
chiral = asymmetrical, no mirror image, no line of symmetry Achiral = symmetrical
6
Q
Difference between enantiomers and disasteromers
A
Enantiomers are flipped
Disasteromers are half flipped, not symmetrical
7
Q
Difference between R and S configuration
A
Priority increases clockwise = R
Priority decreases clockwise = S
8
Q
Define meso compound
A
Meso has minimum 2 chiral centres aand internal mirror plane, is symmetrical
