Chapter 2 Section A Flashcards
What is CAT?
Carburetor air temperature
Measured at the carburetor air intake by a temperature sensing bulb in the ram air intake duct.
A flattened metal tube formed in a circular shape that straightens out pressure enters it is called what?
Bourdon tube
What is an advantage of electrical fuel pressure indicating system?
They avoid introducing fuel into the cockpit
On aircrafts with a continuous-flow fuel injection system, the fuel flow indicator can measure what?
The pressure drop across the fuel injection nozzle to determine fuel flow
A type of fuel flow measuring system that incorporates a vane and measures VOLUME is called what?
Autosyn system
What is a fuel totalizer?
A computerized fuel flow guage that provides a digital readout of fuel used, fuel remaining, current rate of fuel consuption, and time remaining.
Wat is MAP and what does it measure?
Manifold pressuer guage
Measures the absolute pressure of the fuel/air mixture within the intake manifold/
When the engine is not running, what does the MAP guage display?
Local ambient, or atmospheric pressure
Describe the two types of circuits that an oil temperature guage uses?
Wheatstone Bridge Circuit - Consists of three fixed resistors and one variable resistor whose resistance varies with temperature
Ratiometer circuit - measures current ratios, more reliable than a wheatstone, consists of two parallel branches powered by the aircraft electrical system
What is the fuel pressure guage calibrated in and what are the different types of systems used?
Calibrated in PSI
Mechanical
- Bourdon tube
- Pressure Capsule
- Bellow
Electrical
Transducer - transmit electrical signals proportional to the fuel pressure to the cockpit
Why is it possiable to use the pressure drop across the fuel nozzle to determine fuel flow?
Because the fuel pressure in a direct fuel injection system is porportional to the fuel flow
At full power, the MAP in normally aspirated engines will not exceed what?
Ambient pressure
What is CHT? What does it do?
Cylinder head temperature
A guage that enables pilots to monitor the temperature of atleast one of the cylinders
What is a thermocouple?
A circuit consisting of two wires of dissimilar metal connected at two junctions to form a loop. Anytime a temperature difference exist between the two, a small electrical current is generated.
What type of circuit does a CHT guage use?
Thermocouple circuit
