How does a MA should help the patient to prepare to undergo a planned surgical procedure?
By collaborating with the provider and family members to ensure the best interest of the patient are being met.
What does the patient may need to do prior surgery?
Refrain from eating, drinking, adjust medications, secure medical equipment or home health care services, ride home after procedure, etc.
On the day of the procedure what does the MA should do?
Answer any patient’s or family’s last-minute questions.
What does the patient or family need to do on the day of the procedure?
Confirm that the informed consent is signed and scanned into the patient’s medial record.
When is an Informed consent signed by the patient?
After an explanation is provided about the nature of the procedure, possible risks, expected outcomes, alternative methods of treatment, etc.
