Chapter 2 PowerPoint Flashcards
Changes in arterial blood pressure at rest…
Although arterial pressure oscillates over time, mean arterial pressure oscillates over time, mean pressure remains constant.
Components of a control system:
Sensor or receptor: detects the changes in the variable.
Control center: assesses the input and initiates response.
Effector: changed internal environment back to normal.
Changes in body core temperature during exercise…
Body temperature reached a plateau (steady state) during exercise.
Hormesis
Process in which a low-to-moderate dose of a potentially harmful stress (for example, chemical agent or environmental stress) results in a beneficial adaptive response on the cell or organ system.
Exercise-induced hormesis defines much of what we know about exercise-induced adaptation in the body.
Anaerobic glycolysis
Take the H+ (from NADH), attach it to pyruvate, and make lactate.
FAST
Net = 2 ATP
Aerobic glycolysis
NADH and the pyruvate does to the mitochondria and goes throw the Kreb’s Cycle and ETC.
SLOW
Net = 32 ATP
