- quoting someones work, without acknowledgement
- cutting and pasting text or diagram or material from internet without acknowledgement
- paraphrasing someone by altering a few words without acknowledgement
- collaborating with others and not attributing the assistance
- wrongly referencing, within the text and reference list (e.g. when student pretend to read an original source, but knowledge derived from secondary source)
- using materials written by others such as professional essay writing services (ghostwriting)
- self-plagiarizing (submittting sth you have already submitted (partly or fully) for another assessment

- summarizing: reducing the length of a text but retaining the main points
- paraphrasing: rewriting a text so that the language is substantially different while the content stays the same
