Chapter 2- Neuroscience Flashcards
Neuroscience
The study of the brain and nervous system.
Glial Cells
The cells in nervous system that support the system for the neurons.
Acetylcholine(ACh)
A neurotransmitter that in involved with learning, memory and muscle movement.
Dopamine
Neurotransmitter that is involved in arousal, mood states, thought process and physical movement.
Serotonin and Norepinephrine

GABA
Inhibitory neurotransmitter involved in LOWERING arousal and anxiety and regulating movement.
Glutamate
The main excitatory neurotransmitter involved in memory storage, pain, perception, strokes and schizophrenia.
Endorphins
Neurotransmitter that is involved in pain relief and pleasure.
Central Nervous System
The brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System
The part of nervous system that links the central nervous system with body’s sensory receptors, muscles and glands.
James-Lange Theory
A theory of emotion saying that emotion is determined from a cognitive proposal; because you see it, you back away.
