UNILATERALLY: bends cervical spine to same side

O: C1-C2 transverse processes; posterior tubercles of transverse tubercles of transverse processes
I: 1st rib, posterior to the groove for subclavian artery
N: direct branches from cervical and brachial plexus (C3-C8)
A: ribs mobile- elevate upper ribs (during forced inspiration)
ribs fixed- BILATERALLY: flexes neck;
