What is magnetic field?
It is the space surrounding a magnet in which magnetic force is exerted. It has both magnitude and direction.
What is magnetic field direction at a point?
It is the direction of the resultant force acting on a hypothetical North Pole placed at that point.
What are magnetic field lines?
The lines drawn in a magnetic field along which a north magnetic pole would move. They are also called magnetic lines of force. They always move from North Pole to South Pole.
What are magnetic field lines inside a magnet?
South to north.
What happens when a compass is loved along a magnetic field line?
The compass needle always sets itself along the line tangential to it.
How do iron filings show the shape of magnetic field produced by a bar magnet?
By aligning themselves with the magnetic field lines.
What indicates the strength of magnetic field?
Degree of closeness of field lines.
