Threadlike parts of cells on the surface of a root.
root hair
A layer just inside the epidermis of roots and stems. It stores the food.
cortex
Tissue through which food from the leaves move down through a plant.
phloem
When water evaporates from the leaves, more water moves up through the plant to replace the lost water.
transpiration
A thin covering made up of cells. It protects the tip as it grows into the soil.
root cap
The outermost layer of a root, stem, or leaf.
epidermis
Tissue through which water and minerals flow up through the plant.
xylem
A layer that separates the xylem from the phloem. The cambium is where new xylem and phloem are produced.
cambium
Hydrogen and carbon dioxide join in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll to form sugars and oxygen.
photosynthesis
What a living thing does as a result of a stimulus.
responce
A response of a plant toward or away from a stimulus.
tropism
Which occurs in plants and animals, sugars and oxygen join to produce water, carbon dioxide and energy.
respiration
Something in the environment the causes a living thing to react.
stimulius
A characteristic that enabled a living thing to survive in it’s environment.
