CHAPTER 2 lesson 2 Biology Flashcards
Organisms that collects energy from the sun or inorganic substances to produce its own food
Autotroph
Organism that cannot make its own food and gets its nutrients and energy requirements by feeding on other organisms
Heterotroph
Heterotroph that only eats plants
Herbivore
Heterotroph that prays on other heterotrophs
Carnivore
Eat plants and animals
Omnivore
Heterotroph that decomposes organic material and returns the nutrients to soil air and water, making the nutrients available to other organisms
Detritivore
Each step in a food chain or food web
Trophic level
A simplified model that shows a single path of energy flow through an ecosystem
Food chain
The total mass of living matter at each trophic level
Biomass
