Chapter 2 (kinematics) Flashcards
Formula for average speed
total distance travelled / total time taken
What is velocity
Formula of velocity
Velocity is the rate of change in displacement
displacement / time taken
What is acceleration
Formula of acceleration
Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity
change in velocity / time taken
What is uniform acceleration
Formula of uniform acceleration
Uniform acceleration is a constant rate of change of velocity
(final velocity - initial velocity) / time taken
What can be found in a speed-time graph
(talk about the gradient and distance travelled)
area under the graph is the distance travelled
the gradient
- increasing gradient = speed increasing at a constant pace
- horizontal gradient = speed is at a constant pace
- decreasing gradient = speed decreasing at a constant pace
What can be found in a distance-time graph
(talk about the gradient)
the gradient = the speed of the object
- gradient in a U-shape = object is accelerating / increasing speed
- gradient in a straight line = (diagonally) object is moving a constant speed
(horizontally) object is not moving / is stationery
- gradient in an N-shape = object is decelerating / decreasing speed
