CHAPTER 2 IMAGE QUALITY Flashcards
4 PRIME EXPOSURE FACTORS
Time T , Milliamperage mA, Killovoltage kVp, Source to image distancing SID
Exposure Time
A measure of how long the exposure will continue
Milliamperage mA
A measure of the current flow rate in the xray tube circuit
mA x TIME = mAs
the product of exposure and time in seconds. indicates total of radiation produced
Killovoltage kVp
A measure of the potential difference across the xray tube. (Determines speed of electrons in electron stream) CONTROLS BEAM QUALITY
SID
Affects xray beam intensity and beam divergence distance between source and image receptor
Technique Charts
Provide recommended exposure factors for various exams and patient sizes
Computed Radiography
Uses an imaging plate that contains a photostimulable phosphor
Digital Radiography
No Casettes. Provides digital images
PACS
Stores all xray images
4 Image Quality Factors
Optical Density, Image Contrast, Image Detail, Distortion
Optical Density
How dark
Image contrast
How the structures look
Image detail
refers to the sharpness of the image
Distortion
refers to a variation in size or shape of the image in comparision
