Person who came to America and was placed under contract to work for another over a certain period of time usually seven years, esp. During 17th-19th centuries
Congregationalism
System of church government where each local church governs itself, rather than having a hierarchy that goes above the level of a local church
King Philips War
Lasted from 1675-1676 52 of new England’s towns were attacked and a dozen were burned down, about 600 English soldiers were lost.. Death of Metacomet. One of the most devastating conflicts between Americans and English settlers

Bacons rebellion
1676- citizen militia engaged a series of raids against local villages, massacring inhabitants. successful mob set fire to Jamestown. Problems of social division, resistance in the part of colonists against royal governance and difficulty of controlling former indentured slaves (demand for black slaves)
John smith
Became strong leader of Jamestown in 1605; made sure men had enough food and worked closely with Indians
