Wellbeing
State of being comfortable, happy and/or happy
Physical health
Relates to the efficient functioning of the body and the systems, and includes the physical capacity to perform tasks and physical fitness
Social health
Being able to interact with others and participate in the community in both a independent and cooperative way.
Mental health
State of wellbeing in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, is able to cope with stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to a contribution to his or her community
Morality
Death rates in a population
Morbidity
Ill health in an individual or Levels of ill health in a population
DALYS
Disability adjusted life years. One DALY equals one healthy year of life lost due to disability, illness, injury or premature death. YLL+YLD
YLLS
Years of life lost due to premature death
YLDS
Measure of how many healthy years of life are lost due to disability, illness or injury
Prevalence
The number or proportion of existing cases of a disease/disability in a given period of time
Incidence
The number of new cases of a disease/disability in a given period of time
Life expectancy
An indication of how long an individual can expect to live if current death rates remain unchanged
Burden of disease
The measure of the impact of disease and injuries; it also measure the gap between current health status and the ideal situation where everyone lives to an old age, free of disease. Measured in DALYS
Genetic predisposition
An inherited tendency to exhibit certain traits (eg height) or develop certain conditions (eg cancer) based on genetic makeup
Health
The complete state of physical, social and mental wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.
