Chapter 2: Epithelial, Fibrous Connective and Muscle Tissues Flashcards
- Describe the general features of epithelial tissues
scutoid shaped, tightly packed and form a continuous sheet. It has almost no intercellular spaces
Examples of Simple squamous
capillaries to the alveoli of lungs, and nephrons of kidneys
Examples of simple cuboidal
surface of ovaries, the lining of nephrons, the walls of the renal tubules, and parts of the eye and thyroid
Examples of stratified squamous
lining mucosa of oral cavity, esophagus, anal canal, ectocervix, vagina, foreskin, and the internal portion of the lips
Describe and contrast the general features of glandular epithelial tissues
Glandular epithelium is a type of epithelial tissue which covers the glands (both exocrine and endocrine) of our body. Their main function is secretion
- Identify and describe the main features of general (fibrous) connective tissue
Collagen fibres are relatively wide and stain a light pink, while elastic fibers are thin and stain dark blue to black. The space between the formed elements of the tissue is filled with the matrix
Examples of dense irregular
submucosa of the digestive tract, fibrous capsules of joints and lymph
Examples of dense regular
Tendons and ligaments
Examples of adipose
around the hips, thighs, belly or buttocks
Examples of skeletal tissue
Biceps
Examples of cardiac tissue
Heart
Example of smooth muscle
Walls of hollow organs like your intestines and stomach
