Sub - Saharan Africa
> more than 40 countries make up the region of Sub-Saharan Africa (culturally diverse)
early civilisations foraged for food by hunting, gathering and fishing
Food supply was very dependent on climate change and landscape
communities increased in size
The Fertile Cresent
Is a > semi-circular region of fertile land to the east of Mediterranean Sea that forms a ‘bridge’ between Africa and Eurasia
>these communities were some of the earliest groups to develop agricultural practises and irrigation systems
>staple crops were grown on fertile land [such as wheat and barely]
The Mediterranean
> evidence shows the farmers began cultivating cereals early, particularly wheat, barley and legumes
they developed colonies in these regions and started domesticating animals [sheep, goats, pigs]
because they were surrounded by sea they began filming [fish and shellfish]
East Asia and Oceania
Countries within East Asian regions
>China,Japan,South and North Korea, Indonesia, Mongolia, Taiwan
Oceania
>Islands of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Polynesia
……………
> the development of food production began as communities became more settled
most agriculture was created next to lakes and rivers to ensure a steady water supply.
Eurasia
Is > ideal for agriculture due to its climate
> The Greeks developed a crop rotation system bringing different food crops, domesticated animals to Eurasia which lead to larger farming rather than a small family owned farm.
The Americas
[Peru]
Includes > North America, Central America, South America, Canada, Caribbean Island
South America > Potatoes, Quinoa, Lima Beans, Squash, Peanuts
