What is a poly centric mindset?
They are aware of other cultures and will adapt, but they still think that their way is the best way. Assimilators
What is an ethnocentric mindset?
Deny the existence of uncertainty and the need to learn, expecting that existing strategies will be effective in new markets. Self-affirmers
What is culture?
A system of common values, norms, attitude and behaviours that are shared and taken for granted by members of a social group.

What are values?
Abstract ideas/assumptions/principles and beliefs about what is good right and desirable
What are norms?
Social rules and guidelines that prescribe appropriate behaviour in particular situations
Folkways—> routine convention of every day life. Not great impact (ei. Dress code)
Mores—> norms central to the functioning of the society and its social life. Greater significance. Violations can bring serious retribution (ei. Stealing)
What is the difference between high power distance and low power distance?
High power values great defence to a person of authority
A low power distance values the equal treatment
What is the difference between universalism and particularism?
Universalism is the belief that ideas and practices can be applied anywhere without modification
Particularism claims that each society has its own unique historical development and must be understood based on its own specific cultural context, especially its historical process
What is the difference between monochronic and polychronic societies?
Monochronic societies are very adamant about being on time, polyphonic will give you an idea of the time and you interpret
What is the difference between achievement and ascription?
Achievement is when people are accorded their status based on how well the fulfill their functions
Ascription is base on who the person is (ei you are born into it)
What is the difference between specific and diffuse life spaces cultures?
Specific is when there is a clear divide between life at home and work
Diffuse tend to have a burrier line between the two
