Chapter 2 cells Flashcards
What are cells made up of?
Made of water both organic and in organic molecules water making about 70% of the cells mass. All three micro nutrients, including fat carbohydrate, and protein are present in the cells
What are organelles?
They are structures in a living cell performing specialized metabolic tasks. The organelles manage processes ranging from replication of genetic material to excretion of waste and energy production.
Ribosomes
Performs biological proteins, synthesis to form something new, the production of chemical compounds by reaction from simpler materials
What is nucleus?
Holds the cells genetic material
What is a Golgi apparatus?
A packages proteins into vesicles for transport
What is a mitochondria?
Generates cellular energy
What is a lysosome?
Digest and removes waste within the cell
Cell membrane
The external structure of the cell membrane is important for life as it serves to protect its cell, but also allows them to interact with one another. This membrane enclosed is each cell and is embedded with proteins, allowing Michael’s to cross the lipid bilayer.
