Medulla
Base of the brain controls heart beat and breathing
Cerebellum
Balance; coordinates voluntary movements.
Reticular Formation
a network of neurons in the brainstem involved in consciousness, regulation of breathing, the transmission of sensory stimuli to higher brain centers, and the constantly shifting muscular activity that supports the body against gravity.
Hippocampus
Involved with memory-(Hippos never forget)
Hypothalamus
it directs several maintenance activities (eating, drinking, body temperature, sexual behavior), and is linked to emotion.
Amygdala
two almond shaped cluster; associated with rage & fear.
Motor cortex
outgoing message
Broca’s Area
Muscle movements involved in speech and hands; impulse control; judgement.
Sensory Cortex
Incoming message
Occipital lobes
makes sense of what you are seeing.
Wernicke’s Area
most important to languge development.
Schizophrenia
A mental disorder which makes it harder to tell the difference between what is real and not real.
left hemisphere
excels in language.
Right hemisphere
wants the general idea; it likes creativity; excels in visual.
Corpus Callosum
It connects the left and right sides of the brain allowing for communication between both hemispheres. The corpus callosum transfers motor, sensory, and cognitive information between the brain hemispheres.
