Q

What is an isotope?

A

Atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons and therefore masses.

Q

Do isotopes affect chemical reactions?

A

No because different isotopes of the same element have the same number of electrons, but the number of neutrons has no effect on reactions of an element. Therefore, different isotopes of an element react in the same way.

7
Q

Define ‘cations’ and ‘anions’.

A

Cations are positive ions/atoms with fewer electrons than protons. Anions are negative ions/atoms with more electrons than protons.
