Chapter 2 Flashcards
Infant age range
< 1 yo
Child age range
1 yo to onset of puberty (breast development or pubic hair)
What is the focus of the pediatric survival chain?
To focus on preventing arrest
Four Most common causes of pedi arrest?
respiratory, shock, CHD, trauma
CPR Compression rate
100-120/min
Compression depth in children
2 inches
Compression depth in infants
1.5 inches 1/3 AP depth
How often do you switch CPR providers
every 2 minutes
What is CPP?
coronary profusion pressure
What does Coronary Perfusion Pressure (CPP) indicate?
myocardial blood flow
What is a chest compression fraction?
The amount of time spent giving compression
What is the chest compression fraction goal?
80%, need at least 60% for ROSC
Capnography level of exhaled CO2 that is in normal range?
35-45 mmHg
What does capnography measure?
exhaled CO2 and is a “quantitative measure of cardiac output” p. 8
What levels of capnography should be reached with high quality CPR?
15-20 mmHg
What may indicate ROSC?
a sudden capnography spike to 40 mmHg
When should you call first?
Two instances
witnessed sudden collapse or unresponsive child with a known cardiac condition. p. 10
When should you care first?
- non-witnessed collapse provide 2 min of CPR, THEN call for help.
Breathing and compression ratios for 1 man?
30:2
Breathing and compression ratios for 2 man?
15:2
How often are breaths given with and without an advanced airway?
with Adv. Airway Q 6-8 sec.
without Q 3-5 sec.
p. 14
At what age can an adult AED pad be used?
8 yo
At what weight can an adult AED pads be used?
> 55 lbs.
What are 5 signs of inadequate perfusion in a child?
- cool/ moist skin
- pallor ,mottling, cyanosis
- weak, thready pulse
- decreased cap. refill
- hypotension
p. 18
How far do you open the jaw of a child?
slightly past neutral
How far do you open the jaw of an infant
to neutral
