What is mental health?
A successful performance of mental functioning. Ability to engage in productive activities and joy for filling relationships adapt to change and cope with adversity. The foundation of thinking communication skills learning emotional growth resilience in self-esteem throughout the lifespan. A state of well-being in which individuals are able to realize their abilities as well as contribute to their communities.
Mental illness?
A medical condition involving the days function of the brain and neurotransmitters that affect a persons thinking feeling mood or ability to relate to others and daily functioning. It is a result of a flawed biological psychological or social processes.
What is a diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders edition five or DSM5?
A guide book for categorizing and Diagnosing psychiatric mental health disorders in the US.
It provides a standard language and criteria for the classification of mental disorders.
It is used as a guide for assessing diagnosing and planning car.
It lists specific diagnostic criteria for each mental disorder
DSM5 axis I
List the psychiatric diagnosis or diagnoses that are generally biologic in nature for example major depressive disorder or alcohol dependence.
DSM5 axis II
List personality disorders and mental retardation. To ensure long-standing issue that may occur within Axis I disorders are considered. example borderline personality disorder
DSM5 axis III?
List any medical condition the patient may have which may or may not influence the mental health diagnosis. Example coronary artery disease or hypothyroidism
DSM5 axis IV?
Liz psychosocial stressors in a brief narrative form such as homelessness going through a divorce or job loss.
DSM5 axis V?
The global assessment of functioning a score from 1 to 100 which indicates the patient’s level of functioning the higher the score the higher the patient’s level of functioning.
What is stigma?
A major barrier to mental health treatment and recovery that is closely related to culture and spirituality. Defined as a collection of negative attitudes beliefs and thoughts that influence public perception of the mentally ill which contributed to fear rejection and discrimination and guesstimate with you that Tait and discount the individual.
