Chapter 2 Flashcards
The process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substance.
Chemical Reaction
A soild that is produced as a result of a chemical reaction in solution.
Precipitate
A combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance.
Chemical Formula
A representation of a chemical reaction that uses symbols to show the relationship between the reactant and the products.
Chemical Eqution
A substance or molecule that participates in a chemical reaction.
Reactant
The substance that forms in a chemical reaction.
Products
A reaction in which two or more substances combine to form new compound.
Synthesis Reaction
A reaction in which a single compound breaks down to form two or more substance.
Decomposition Reaction
A reaction in which one element or radical take place of another element or radical in a compound.
Single-Replacement Reaction
A reaction in which a gas, a solid precipitate, or a molecular compound forms from the exchange of ion between two compounds.
Double-Replacement Reaction
A chemical reaction in which heat is released to the surrondings.
Exothermic Reaction
A chemical reaction that requires heat.
Endorthermic Reaction
The law that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be change from one form to another.
Law of Conservation of Energy
The minimum amount of energy required to start a chemical reaction
Activation Energy
A substance that slows down or stop a chemical reaction.
Inhibitor
