Prime
A whole number with 2 factors: 1, and itself
Composite
A whole number with more than 2 factors
Prime factorization
A way of expressing a composite number as a product of its prime factors
Power
A number obtained by raising a base to an exponent
Cubed
A number raised to the Third power
Base
In a power, the number used as a factor of 10 cubed, the base is 10
Squared
A number raised to the second power
Exponent
In a power, the number of times the base is used as a factor. In 5 cubed the exponent is 3
Powers of ten
A number like 10, 100, 1000 and so on. It’s a result of using only ten as a factor
Distributive property
To multiply a sum by a number, you can multiply each addend by the same number and add the products
Compatible numbers
Numbers in a problem that are easy to work with mentally
Product
The answer to a multiplication problem
Factor
A number that is multiplied by another number
