Chapter 2 Flashcards
3 Components of Hard Drive
Hard Disk, Host Adapter, Controller
IDE devices supported by single IDE channel
2
Distance Serial ATA (SATA) cables can extend to
1 Meter
What does RAID stand for
Redundant Array of Independent Disks
RAID 0
Disk Stripping
Equal space from two drives used to create larger volume
One drive can read while the other is moving –> faster data access
RAID 1
Disk Mirroring
Fault tolerance (data written simultaneously to two seperate drives)
Duplexing means seperate host adapter used for 2nd drive
Only two drives can be used
RAID 5
Combine benifit of 0 and 1
Use parity when writting so data not lost if disk goes down
Minimum 3 disks required –> one for redundancy
Raid 3 and 4
Place all parity on single drive
RAID 6
Like RAID 5 but can loose two disks
Min 4 disks are required
RAID 10
Combines 1 and 0
Minimum 4 disks
Half of storage is for mirroring
