Criminal Law
States what is wrong and what the punishment is for illegal behavior
Administrative law
Regulates the relationship between the government and the people (example welfare)
Bylaws
Laws made by a lower level of government (municipal, or local level) example: bars can not be open past ten o’clock
Civil Law
Private law, regulates relationships between individuals and individuals and organizations (family law, tort law, contract law, and property law)
Constitutional Law
Part of private law, states the deals with people and businesses. It also deals with everyday transactions. (when people purchase goods and services)
Distinguishing a case
Case is different enough from the other cases that previous decisions were made based on.
Domestic Law
Law that is made and enforced with the law in one country and it includes both case law and statue law
Contract Law
Part of private law, states the deals with people and businesses. It also deals with everyday transactions. (when people purchase goods and services)
Employment Law
Relationship between employee and employer and states the rights and obligations of both.
International Law
Relationship with other countries in the world
Jurisdiction
Area that different levels of government have a right to enact their legislation
Procedural Law
Law that regulates procedures when gathering evidence properly, when someone is arrested or receiving trial.
Property Law
Law that regulates property and ownership and transfer of property
Public Law
Three branches: administrative, criminal law and constitutional law. Regulates relationship with the government and its citizens
Statute Law
Law that is passed by the representative in the government in the parliament
