Feminist approach to IR
Feminist theory attacked the exclusion of women in discussions about international affairs as well as the injustice and unequal treatment of women this prejudice caused. As feminist theory evolved over time, it moved away from focusing on a history of discrimination and began to explore how gender identity shaped foreign policy decision making and how gendered hierarchies reinforced practices that perpetuated inequalities between men and women.
Environmentalist approach to IR
The Environmentalist approach to International Relations sees every issue we have as environmental.
Democratic Peace Theory
“the theory that although democratic states sometimes wage wars against other states, they do not fight each other”
Treaty of Westphalia
The modern nation-state system was born with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which ended the Thirty Years’ War.
World Systems Theory
In the modern world system, constitutive norms of sovereignty define what counts as statehood, whereas regulative norms that either constrain or enable specify how sovereign states ought to conduct themselves.
