Chapter 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is a transducer?
A
Something that can change one form of energy to another
2
Q
What are the ceramic elements of transducers mate of?
A
PZT
3
Q
How is PZT made?
A
Ceramic is heated above its Curie temperature (>365 degrees) - allows crystals to move
- a voltage is then applied, causing polarization
- crystal is then cooled
4
Q
What is a transducer’s resonant frequency?
A
The frequency at which a transducer is most efficient
- determined mainly by the thickness of the PZT element
5
Q
What is the purpose of the backing layer of a transducer?
A
It damps the vibrations, following excitation
