Q

Briefly discuses each of these two parameters and how they are fundamental to achieving fuel security.

A
  1. Strong foreign relations:
These relations may have taken years or perhaps decades to shape and forge. If achieved this will provide a secure and consistent supply of fuel.
  2. Safe transportation routes:
These routes may include rivers and oceans if the fuel is crude oil and needs transported by ship. These routes will insure the the fuel gets to its destination safely and undamaged.

A

USA Intervention in Venezuela:
The USA is currently exerting force on Venezuela through sanctions to destabilise the current government, which does not allow US companies to extract and refine their crude oil. The then US National Security Advisor John Bolton stated in January 2019, that a US backed Coup in Venezuela was about crude oil and American interest.

Q

Describe two ways in which the global use of fossil fuels impacts on the environment.

A

Habitat degradation:
The extraction and the pollution associated with the combustion of fossil fuels has a devastating impacts on habitats of certain species.

Impact on biodiversity:
When some species lose their habitat, they are unable to survive. Those other species that eat these will also be affected. Food chains will alter significantly and there is a knock-on effect in terms of further loss of biodiversity.
