chapter 2 Flashcards
the idea that all living things are composed of cells, cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things, and new cells are produced from existing cells
Cell theory
The Protective layer that covers the entire cell; it does allow materials to be passed into and out of the cells; every cell has one
Cell membrane-
Provide support for the cell; Michael Bone
Microtubule
GateKeeper provides boundaries for the cell and regulates what moves in and out of the cell; the same as a cellular membrane
Plasma Membrane
plant cell; temporarily stores food, water, minerals, and other important substances for the cell; like fat cells in humans
Vacuole
GateKeeper provides boundaries for the cell and regulates what moves in and out of this song the same as the plasma membrane
cellular membrane
make protein
Ribosomes
transport essential substances through the cell; no ribosomes
Smooth endoplasmic Reticulum
Long chains of amino acids; r n a make it; help cells communicate; provide structural support
Protein
a large Macromolecule that does not dissolve in water; a major part in cell membranes; protective barriers, stores energy, cell communication, ex. Oil
lipids
Powerhouse supplies energy for the cell; does not make energy just supplies it
Mitochondria
located inside of nucleolus and makes ribosomes
Nucleolus
lipid, protein, nucleic acids, carbohydrates
basic structures of the cell
A very large organic molecule composed of many smaller molecules
Macromolecules
where all the genetic information is contain; has instructions for growth, cell reproduction, and cell process
Nucleic acids
